LOBATO IS DONE! LOBATO IS DONE! Posted Saturday, June 18 2011 at 0007 h MDT Almost a year after the deck burned and severed Chama from the rest of the C&TS, the line is once again whole. At 1846h Friday evening (17 Jun 2011), C&TS diesel 19 rolled across pulling ballast hopper JBWX 1 and pushing one of the flat cars. Chama and Antonito are once again linked by narrow rails.

LOBATO DECK DONE - RAILS AND BALLAST ON THEIR WAY Posted Thursday, June 16 2011 at 1408 h MDT Roger Hogan has posted pictures of rail being loaded at Chama. The crew has finished the deck and walkway on Lobato, and we should have track soon. I'd anticipate trains over the trestle within a week. [Here's] the pictures. - NDHolmes
ZEPHYR TRUNCATED AT DENVER DUE TO FLOODING Posted Wednesday, June 8 2011 at 1101 h MDT Amtrak is temporarily suspending the California Zephyr east of Denver effective as of this Saturday, 11 Jun 2011. The train was already routed around Omaha last week on account of a temporary dike being built over the line near Oreapolis, NE. Now there's apparently another dike going in somewhere near Plattesmouth that will block the east-west ex-CB&Q mainline. The last through trains will be 5 out of Chicago on Friday and 6 out of Emeryville on Thursday. The truncation is expected to last through at least through next Tuesday and possibly longer, depending on flooding conditions.
In related news, a surge of traffic over the Joint Line is expected as freight detours southward to avoid this blockage. - NDHolmes
LOBATO STEELWORK DONE Posted Monday, June 6 2011 at 1331 h MDT As of Sunday, 5 Jun 2011, the last new box girder has been set on Lobato. Roger has pictures [here], and reports that ties will start going down today. - NDHolmes
FIRST TIES TO LOBATO Posted Sunday, June 5 2011 at 0913 h MDT All of the old box girder segments are now removed, and a few of the new ones are installed. With that, the C&TS used diesel 19 and a flat car to take a load of ties from a semi at Dalton down to the north end of the bridge yesterday. Roger's video is [here]. Good work, guys! - NDHolmes
