  • SL&RG SOLD?
    Posted Wednesday, December 21 2005 at 1116 h MST
Jeff Moore reported on the Colorado-Railfans list that the San Luis & Rio Grande has been sold by RailAmerica to Permian Basin Railways. PBR also owns the Arizona Eastern, the Texas New Mexico Railroad, and the West Texas and Lubbock Railroad. PBR is a fully-owned subsidiary of Iowa Pacific Holdings, LLC. Neither company has officially commented on this sale yet, so wait and see... - NDHolmes

  • DRGW 3121 PATCHED TO UP 1344
    Posted Monday, December 19 2005 at 1023 h MST
As of yesterday (Sunday, 18-Dec-2005), DRGW 3121 stopped tracing and UP 1344 showed up in its place. The patch occured right here at the old Burnham Shops while 3121 was in for other work. That leaves only three - DRGW 3110 (California), DRGW 3100 (Colorado), and DRGW 5371 (Utah). - NDHolmes

  • DERAILMENT ON THE MOFFAT
    Posted Saturday, December 17 2005 at 1913 h MST
News via Trainorders and the D&RGW list is that C-EYHM had a few cars derail while heading east this morning between Crescent and Plain, apparently somewhere around Tunnel 10. Despite the limited access, the line was expected be open yet tonight (Saturday, 17-Dec-2005). Amtrak 5, the westbound Zephyr, did go via Wyoming this morning. Thanks to CZ on T/O and Wes on the list for reporting this. - NDHolmes

  • TRUCK DERAILS 6 AT CISCO, UT
    Posted Wednesday, December 14 2005 at 1353 h MST
Amtrak 6, the eastbound California Zephyr, is on the ground at Cisco, UT. It hit a truck, killing the truck driver and derailing at least the first two units. Reports so far indicate that any injuries to passengers and crew are minor. KKCO (Channel 11, Grand Junction) is carrying the AP story on their website here.
Update (12/14 - 1356h): Sounds like the AP story got it wrong. Both KSL out of Salt Lake and Amtrak are saying only the lead axle of the lead unit came off the rails. Word is they'll be rerailing it and sending it on eastward. KSL's story is here.
    Update (12/17 - 1950h): A few pictures of the wreck can be seen here: #1, #2, #3, #4
