The Tropic Branch, sometimes called the Oakdale Branch or Tropic Spur, was constructed in 1908 from Oakdale Jct. (otherwise called Oakview), on the new standard gauge La Veta Pass main just west of La Veta, 1.95 miles up to the Tropic coal mine near Oakdale. It was torn out in 1935.
