Thistle, UT, was a small town and D&RGW junction located where Soldier Creek, Thistle Creek, and the Lake Fork converge to form the Spanish Fork River. It sat at the junction of the Soldier Summit mainline and the Marysvale Branch. 1983 Thistle MudslideThe end of Thistle came on 13 Apr 1983, when the mountain on the west side began sliding across the valley and damming up against Billies Mountain on the east. Within 48 hours, both US 6 and the Rio Grande mainline would be closed, and within days the valley would be flooded under the impounded waters of the Spanish Fork River. This fascinating disaster deserves its own section, which can be found here. Maps and Photos(None - yet) Categories: Locations |
