An eastbound freight approaches Blue Mt. crossing as it winds downgrade on May 9, 1974. They'll meet the train seen in the next view at Clay siding. This view and the next were take from near the summit of Coal Creek Pk.

An SD45 and a GP35 lead a westbound upgrade approaching Tunnel 1 on May 9th, 1974. On the rear, a pair of GP helpers have just cleared Blue Mt. crossing.

SD45 5320 and three GP30's roar upgrade through Plainview, CO in July of 1975. Given the time of day and the train consist, this is probably either #181 or 183.

X3006E drops downgrade just below Tunnel 1 in July of 1976. This was typical Moffat coal power following the retirement of the F's and prior to the delivery of the SD40T2's.

This view provides a good look at the head end consist of this train. It's a fair bet that most of this cut came from the Rock Island. Check out those caddies on the rack in the forground.

After I switched almost exclusivly to Kodachrome, I didn't shoot many shots on cloudy days. But this Kodacolor negative didn't do too bad in catching this westbound empty at Plain in the summer of 1976.
