Slack refers to coal pieces so small that they're unmarketable, or at least very undesirable to the end user. This can range from dust up to 1 inch (25 mm) in diameter. Railroads would often burn significant amounts of slack coal, as it was plentiful and cheap. Categories: Glossary |
