Shoot Out (1971) was one of a number of movies filmed on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic, formerly the Rio Grande's narrow gauge San Juan Extension. Filming took place in 1970. You can find more information about the movie itself in its entry in IMDB. Filming LocationsThe most notable legacy of Shoot Out was the the construction of several "fake" structures at Lobato, NM - a depot and a water tank. The location has come to be known as Weed City, after the name of the fictional town. The depot was gone at some point before 2000, but the water tank continued, intact, until 2006, when a combination of age, light construction, and high winds took off the top. The base continues to stand. The stock pens at Lobato were not part of the movie set, and are authentic structures from the Rio Grande era. |
