I made a quick trip down to Pueblo, CO, after work today to try to catch the two GE Tier 4 (emissions) prototypes (GECX 2023 and 2024) headed for the Transportation Test Center. They'd been tied down most of the day at Bragdon, but a dog catch crew managed to get the train into the yard before I arrived. The only shot I managed to get was a very long, very backlit view.
However, there were other goodies about. The most notable was a Department of Defense nuclear cask car - DODX 39475. Given that there were other DODX heavy flats at Avondale and I've never seen one of these ply the Joint Line before, I'm not entirely sure this was a load. It may have just been in town for testing and evaluation.
Speaking of which, a detour by Avondale turned up even more. MBTX 2003, the HSP-46 unit that went into TTCI last October, was sitting on the wye behind a string of cars. Apparently it's headed back to MPI in Boise to be completed. There also were a number of 6-axle DODX flats with what appeared to be piles of concrete slabs on them inside welded supports. Odd, but may be related to whatever was going on with DODX 39475.
A look at the other side of DODX 39475 from off the 4th Street bridge. Sorry, it's a long shot over there, especially since I'm now shooting full frame.
MBTX HSP-46 #2003 awaiting pickup at the end of the Avondale wye, along with AAR GP40 #2000. 2000 presumably made the delivery and will grab the Tier 4 GEs to haul them back into the facility.
One of three 6-axle DODX flats sitting at Avondale with these odd concrete load cages welded to the top of them. I have absolutely no idea about these.
