Photographers' Gallery Modern Day on the Rio Grande Nathan Holmes' Photos News Photos Saturday out around La Junta, CO

So it's not the former Rio Grande system, but it does have an ex-DRGW unit in it (NREX 3075 was rebuilt from DRGW 3075). Also seen is an Indian Railways GT46PAC headed for the Transportation Test Center outside Pueblo.

What's that? It's on a BNSF northbound (geographic westbound) in the hole at Las Animas, CO. Clearly going to the Transportation Test Center, since it's a new locomotive.

There's the back end of this odd unit. Contrary to earlier reports, it's not a GT46PAC for India. Sean Graham-White posted to Loconotes that this is a GT36HCW, part of Algeria's order for 16 freight GT36CWs and 14 passenger GT36HCWs. Upon further resea ...

Once into La Junta, the crew breaks off the power to do some work, leaving the mystery unit as the first thing on the west end of the train.

NREX 3075 leads the local back through Swink, CO, towards Pueblo. Yes, 3075 is ex-DRGW 3075, a GP40 rebuilt by NREX into a GP38-2 and for some odd reason, painted for BNSF.

BNSF 2224, an ex-ATSF GP38-2, was the second unit on today's local. Amazingly enough, it looks to still have a builder's plate.

Third motor back is BNSF 1411, an ex-Great Northern GP7. Don't see many of those running on Class Is anymore.
