D&RGW 2-8-2 Class K-37 494 and 491 at Alamosa, Colorado on August 17, 1965, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Locomotives in the 490-499 number series were built as standard gauge 2-8-0 Consolidations by Baldwin in 1902. They were rebuilt to narrow gauge 2-8-2's in D&RGW's own Burnham Shops between 1928-1930. None of the prominently pictured locomotives would run again on the Rio Grande. Number 490 (c/n 20695) was dismantled in 1963-64, it's on a flatcar in this photo. The smokebox went to 492, I don't know about the rest of it. Number 494 (c/n 20748) is on static display at Antonito, Colorado. Number 491 (c/n 20829) is at the Colorado Railroad Museum, property of the Colorado Historical Society.
