I too am an IU alumnus, as is my son. The IU alumni magazine ran a series on
what a Hoosier is a few years ago. I don't think they ever explained it. I
heard somewhere, that people settled in what is now Indiana, built cabins, and
sat on the porch. When a stranger approached, they would ask "whoose yer"?
And that is how they became known as Hoosiers, or so I was told. Chuck.
